I received a nice surprise in the mail from Noelle Smith – a copy of a letter written in 1957 that had been sent to her husband, Bob Smith, a WCPO (radio station 1230) deejay.
Bob was also a “platter jockey” at record hops and the M.C. at dances.
Katy Dooley of the Shillito’s Public Relations Department was confirming in the note that Bob had been invited to be a guest for luncheon in the Shillito’s Tea Room where he would meet and spend time with the twenty young women who were on the department store’s College Board.
Back in the day, the department stores had teen and college boards made up of high school and college girls who did limited work for the stores, mostly participating in fashion shows where they modeled the current trends of the day. They also helped the stores by providing input about what clothing they might like to buy.
Thanks for sharing, Noelle!
