The Ohioana Library Association’s annual event, “designed to celebrate the rich heritage of local authors”, took place on Sunday afternoon, April 2, in the Main Library Reading Garden Lounge of Cincinnati’s downtown branch. I was very pleased to be a part of the occasion that was honoring Loren Long, an award-winning author who lives in Cincinnati, with the Ohioana 2017’s Cooper Award.
I have to admit I was excited to see my name also mentioned in the press release:
“The event will feature Hamilton County authors, such as Cynthia Beischel and Jim Obergefell, most of whom have published books within the past year.”
I was also very happy when two women working at the reception table shared their enthusiasm about my book. They had both read it, said they loved it, and the one had already ordered the vintage candy being made on Mullane’s antique machinery that is mentioned in the book.
There was a large display of books presenting the work of local authors. When I didn’t see a copy of Lost Tea Rooms of Downtown Cincinnati on the table, I was told that the library didn’t have a single copy to put out — over 50 people have put the book on hold through the library! Happy to say the library staff did put Virginia Bakery Remembered out for viewing.
The photo was taken just after David Siders, the Hamilton County Chairman, handed me a Certificate of Recognition For Literary and Artistic Achievement.
